LAMBERT
The horned masked pianist doesn’t use lyrics to illuminate his exquisitely tempered scores, but they’re nevertheless full of incident, drama and stories – a world unto its own.
Hamburg-born and currently Berlin-based composer/multi-instrumentalist’s presents a both tranquil and restless musical journey centred on piano and crossing seamlessly between improvised jazz, classical and filmic ambience.
Never seen without his horned mask. “As a teenager, I had difficulty socialising, so I turned to making music,” he explains. “And though I got better, I could still feel disconnected. But lockdown was an enforced situation, so ‘Open’ is a kind of nostalgia for more social interaction.” All of his subtle artistry and shared adventure was temporarily out of reach, and Lambert was very much alone. Yet in this isolated space, he took the opportunity to refresh his process.
