If your mission is to make the audience happy and cheerful, and you’re adamant to make everyone dance to your music, then you’re definitely the right act for CultuurPlein Den Haag! Thankfully, that’s exactly what Balcony Players’ mission is. The energetic and cheerful nomadic folk band aren’t likely to be pinned down to one country or culture. With members coming from The Netherlands, Belgium, Peru and New Orleans (USA) and influences from the traditional gypsy and folk music, you’re guaranteed to have a delightful, unique and colourful act on your schedule!
MEREL SOPHIE 14:30 – 15:15
An engaging personality with a golden voice and a natural smoothness. A source of strength and warmth, that is Merel Sophie on stage. She brings her own mix of Americana, Roots and Jazz.
RUBENSON 16:00 – 16:45
As soon as Rubonson takes to the stage, birds start singing and the sun will start shining. No wonder we asked him to perform this trick at the Cultuurplein! You might have seen him earlier in the year at festivals like Surfana or remember him as the winner of the Haagse Popprijs 2010! Whether you know him or not, come and enjoy his show at the CultuurPlein and get swept away by his lovely music.
STRINGCASTER 17:30 – 18:15
A fantastic mix of bluegrass, rockabilly, country, folk and hillbilly, that’s what you can expect from Stringcaster! These seasoned musicians know how to get the audience excited with their driving harmonica, hot-pickin’ resonator guitar, twanging 5 string banjo, high-octane mandolins, pulsating rhythm guitar, tight drums and thumping double bass. In the last few years they’ve been welcomed to lots of national and international venues and festivals and on this gorgeous Saturday afternoon they’ll be playing especially you at CultuurPlein!
SUNDAY 2 SEPTEMBER
THE STREETBEAT EMPIRE 13:00 – 13:45
The Streetbeat Empire will make you forget your fear of dancing! With their razor-sharp, acoustic sound, you are thrown back and forth between the four cardinal points! With drums, sousaphone, guitar, percussion, melodica, saxophone and voodoo vocals they have created an empirical sound. Expect music from the street, mixed with 30’s swing, hot jazz, Afrobeat and more.
LOTTE WALDA 14:30 – 15:15
Open-minded, charming and incredibly talented. Lotte Walda’s show at CultuurPlein should definitely be on everyone’s list. The singer-songwriter wants to inspire and convey her love for people and nature to the world. Lotte’s songs are characterised by strong melodies, catchy lyrics and a whole lotta love. Lotte complements her own music with covers from the 60s and 70s.
CONVOI EXCEPTIONAL 16:00 – 16:45
Sweaty, steaming, energetic improvisation sounds and pumping live beats. Fiery with moments of reflection. Rock and Roll in heart and soul. These men have played on many stages since 2006: Oerol, de Parade, Zwarte Cross, Pinkpop, Wildeburg, Surfana, Into The Woods, etc.
NOSTALGIQUE 17:30 – 18:15
Vintage Jazz Band Nostalgique will take you on a journey to Paris in the 1920’s, with Songstress Valentina Rose and her guitarist, saxophonist, and violinist by her side. Together they will fill the afternoon at the CultuurPlein with nostalgic sounds and swinging tunes. Inspired by singers and actresses like Edith Piaf, Sally Rand, and Gypsy Rose Lee she’ll be celebrating life and femininity with elegance, humor, softness, and power.
